GABI RET 2017 Summit

When: July 16 – July 20, 2017

July 16th and 20th are travel days

Where: Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

www.ghostranch.org, which is an inspiring venue for learning about geology and paleontology in a retreat atmosphere. Its geology includes spectacular Mesozoic rocks from the age of dinosaurs made popular by the artist Georgia O’Keefe.

Ghost Ranch also includes some of the most important Triassic early dinosaur fossil localities in North America and the Ruth Hall Paleontology Museum. Additionally, within an hour drive are fossil localities, which we plan to visit, that provide fossil evidence of the GABI in North America.

Purpose and Goals of this Summit:

  1. Provide an opportunity to reflect on, share, and evaluate RET (Research Experiences for Teachers) project, including the PCP PIRE Teach (cohorts 1, 2012 and 2, 2013) and GABI RET (cohorts 3, 2014 – 4, 2015 and 5, 2016) as these relate to your professional development and impact in your classroom.
  2. Share these experiences with other members of the PCP PIRE and GABI projects
  3. Learn how fossil discoveries made by cohorts 1–5 have advanced scientific knowledge about the GABI.
  4. Participate in a formal longitudinal and summative evaluation of this program; and
  5. Participate in field trips and hikes that explore the local geology and paleontology.
